Dethklok is Amazing!
If you’ve never watched Adult Swim, you may not be aware of the show Metalocalypes, an animated show about the most brutal band ever…Dethklok. Well what started out as just an idea for a show is now evolving into an actual band… well, sort of.
Dethklok has released their first album, titled Dethalbum. But to call it a band is kinda not the right idea… you see, the band is made up entirly by Brendon Small, show creator (he also is the genious behind one of my other favorite Adult Swim shows, Home Movies). Brendon sings, plays bass, lead and rythme guitar, and he recruited former Strapping Young Lad drummer Gene Hoglan for the record.
When I heard Dethklok was going to release an actual album I was suprised and extremly excited about the idea… and now that I actually have the album, I can say that I am not disapointed. The CD expands on many songs heard on the TV show, songs like Thunderhorse Mermaider, Birthday Dethday, the Fan Song, Dethharmonic, and Go Forth and Die have all been re-recorded making them sound very tight and even more brutal than before.
The CD isn’t just expanded songs from the show, it also features brand new songs, like Lost Vikings, Hatredcopter, and Face Fisted. All songs are a lot of fun to listen to if you can understand the heavy growling vocals. Every song has lyrics that are totally ridiculous. One good example would be from the song Lost Vikings: “Many years ago we left our homes, with swords to ride into the night, fighting side by side to destroy our foes, and leave them without life.”
If you are a fan of the show you should already have this CD… I was holding out till I could find the Delux version (it includes a second CD with a couple extra songs, a music video for Hatredcoptor, and the first episode of the second season) but since I’ve been having trouble finding it, I lost patiants and decided to buy the regular version now and then buy the delux when I can find it. If you have naver seen the show, but are fan of metal and have a good sense of humor, you still need to get this CD. I give it a perfect 5/5!
