Zune Update
So the Zune media player has come out with a new update, and I must say, some of its good, and some I’m still getting used to.
So the first thing noticed, obviously, is the layout of the whole thing. Before, you had to pick an artist from one page, then go to a list of the albums as well as tracks, and you play from there. With the update, picking the artists and albums is made more seemless by putting the whole thing on one page. Meaning, you have a list of artists on the left of the page, albums from the chosen artist listed in the middle, and songs from the album of choice on the right. I must say, its pretty nice not having to keep going back and forth between pages while listening to different artists.
One thing I find annoying is that it seems that you are unable to listen to all of the albums in a row without having them listed in a weird way, like A-Z, Z-A or by track number (So if you had multiple albums by one artist, it would play all the first tracks from the different albums first, then all of the second ones, and so on). I know its nit picky, but I liked being able to listen to the albums all in their natural order back to back, so hopefully this will be fixed in the future.
Another cool thing about the new version is the addition of podcasts, and the ability to download them to your Zune divice. I’m not sure how often I’ll use this option, but its still nice to finally have the option. The adition of colorful backgrounds is nice too. The lack of an interesting background in the first version was kind of annoying, so its nice to have some variety… although the choices are limited, its still nice to have choices. Hopefully more backgrounds will be made available in the future.
Well, thats all I got to report on the new version for now, though I’m still trying to get familar with it, so I might have some more opinions in the near future.
